Barabbas was a notorious prisoner who was apparently involved in numerous insurrections against the Roman power, and was possibly already convicted of murder. The Romans despised him, and the religious Jews, as expected, just used him to try and achieve their purpose.
Religious people seem to use others under the veil of love, and love the things they should use to love. They are a mixed-up group that sinks deeper into their religious quicksand the more they struggle against truth.
Truth always is something we discover, and it changes our lives. However, it is never something we change to accommodate our lives.
