Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun. And when Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, he said to them, "Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess." Deuteronomy 32:44-47 ESV When I learn something, I need to apply it to myself and think about ways to pass this information on to the next generation. In fact, I need to think about ways to pass this on so that the next generation is excited about passing it on to the generations after them. Truth should travel from parents to children to grandchildren to great-grandchildren and beyond. Moses teaches this in the Old Testament and Paul teaches the same principle in the New Test

"The LORD saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters. And he said, 'I will hide my face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. They have made me jealous with what is no god; they have provoked me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are no people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. Leaders need to be servants and avoid all things that point to themselves as a reason for anything good. Deuteronomy 31:23 ESV Why would God need to encourage Joshua to be strong and courageous? Why would Joshua need strength and courage if He followed God's direction? That was precisely why he would need those qualities. Those who follow God choose to be on the frontlines of the spiritual war, and they will face all sorts of unforeseen hardships. Our enemy does not hate us, but he hates and fears God and will do whatever he can to lure us away from Him. Whereas God is patient, not wanting any to perish, Satan is patient, wanting all to perish, and works diligently with the tools he is given to accomplish his purposes. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, 'Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?' Those who know God, love God, and obey His voice, and this is not by accident.   Those who love usually talk to and about the one they love. It is natural, most likely not rehearsed, and common. Throughout the Bible, we are told that if we love God, we will obey Him. That gives us a simple way to honestly evaluate whether we love God or not.. That would mean that they would be thinking about how to make others successful, rather than themselves. The poor and needy would be cared for by the excesses of the rich, women would not be being auctioned off as property (as they are in places of the world today), and children would be cared for and nurtured.   God did not ask us to do something we cannot do. He asked us to obey His voice. The United States does not seem to want to hear God's voice, much less obey it. We seem to want to make up our own standards. This

You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. How easy is it to forget the only One whom we should be remembering?   What is it that gets in our way? What things become more important than God? I will bet we will regret whatever it is or was that got between God and us one day. This verse indicates that we forget God when we neglect to keep his commandments, rules, and statues. Perhaps the attention to the details of His commandments, rules, and statues keep us in close proximity to Him

"For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
