We Were Made To Respond
Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
John 13:5 (ESV)
The creator and sustainer of all life demonstrated what life is about. We were created to serve, not be served. We were created to give, not to receive.
Yet all of what we have that is critical for life is received.
We received God's mercy; therefore, we give mercy to others.
We received God's grace; therefore, we give grace to others.
We received God's provision in talents and resources; therefore, we give our talents and resources to others.
We first receive, then we give.
Those who have problems receiving most likely think they do not need to receive, and try to care for themselves. Those who have a problem receiving often have a problem giving in that they think others should not need to receive either.
We love because He first loved us.
We were made to respond to an original gift, and once we do, we turn into givers instead of takers.
