Selfishness is always wrong and always ends badly.

Then Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen. Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left." And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.
Genesis 13:8-11

Lot thought that he would need to grab the best for himself. But, throughout his journey, Abram learned that it is not man's logic or wisdom that will bring about success, but rather, it is God. God alone is responsible for the only important things in life. God is the one who created and sustains life. God, alone, is the one who gives, as a gift, significance, and security.

Selfishness is always wrong and always ends badly. Lot=Example A. It all started with a self-centered attitude. Then, to compound that, he was separated from the older Abram, who could have and would have kept him on track with his thinking. So now, powerful, in charge, isolated from other believers, and immature, Lot will head full speed into compromise and destruction.
This could have been nipped in the bud by thinking of Abram before himself. We need to watch ourselves and train this next generation that it is really not all about them. It is all about God.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
