I do not receive glory from people. But I know that you do not have the love of God within you. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? John 5:41-44 (ESV) We enjoy the praises of people. Yet, these praises come with a price that includes many hidden costs. The immediate satisfaction from admiration can be addicting, creating a lifestyle of performances that elicit our peers' cheers. In time, we become focused on the praise of mankind, and the thought of walking with, enjoying, and obeying God becomes subject to what the crowd finds admirable. We need to be careful as social media fuels our political nature and robs us of the simple obedient lifestyle we were created to enjoy. If we make our lives about God, our love for Him, and obedience to Him, what He thinks will be what matters, and in the end, that is what matters. |
