Special Night

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Luke 2:1-8 (ESV)

In those days, there was a decree, and the people had to respond. In those days, the shepherds watched over their sheep, as they did every day. People rejected a young woman from the comfortable housing they were fortunate enough to obtain, even though she was about to give birth in those days. In those days, it seemed as if life was just happening as expected. Yet, God had set things up to make those days the most memorable in history.

Today may seem normal to many, yet God has plans today as well. Therefore, this day, and the future should elicit our praise and adoration for those who seek God.

At least Joesph, Mary, and the shepherds experienced how special this nightwas. May we also rejoice as we remember this moment.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness

Hope in a King?
