Happy New Year

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Psalms 90:12 (ESV)

It’s the close of another year--the end of a cycle. God, in His graciousness, allows us to have moments in time where we can easily and naturally evaluate our lives. Each day, there is a beginning and end to start with goals and assess how we have done as the sunsets.

Each year, we can look back and see our failures, make life adjustments, and rejoice in the victories. Each day/year that passes, we are reminded that our time is finite, that aging is something we cannot stop, and as the seasons change, our lives change, so we must adapt appropriately or be miserable failures.

Often there are year-end parties that celebrate something. Sometimes they are just excuses to party, sometimes, there is a party to demonstrate thankfulness, and sometimes it is a time to gather and reflect on what God has done and look to what He might do in the year to come. The most important purpose for a party would be to focus on God's past mercy and grace while corporately seeking His plan and blessing for the year to come.

I pray this day would not just be full of meaningless noise, but one that allows you precious moments of reflection. This year will have ended, and we are not guaranteed we will ever see the ending of another. However, if there are no more, believers will participate in a beginning that will never end.

Happy New Year!

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
