It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the riverbank. And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her young women walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her servant woman, and she took it. When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children." Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?" And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go." So the girl went and called the child's mother. And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages." So the woman took the child and nursed him. When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, because, she said, "I drew him out of the water."
Exodus 2:3-10
Women who feared God delivered a baby who would one day, eight decades later, begin to show the world who God is. God's preparatory work is incredible. His ways are always perfect, and His intentionality is beyond our understanding.
To all who study culture, this was a dark time. The babies were getting killed, and there was no hope for a young man born to a Jewish lady in Egypt. Yet, God took this very dark moment and allowed His light to shine all the brighter. Not only was He going to rescue His people and honor the fear of God that was present in these ladies, but He was going to use the most powerful family of that day, the one who was most responsible for the misery of the Jewish people, to train and equip this leader.
It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness. It is about Him, not us. When we make it about Him, He makes it about us. When we make it about us, He lets us make it about us and allows us to live within the context of our abilities and powers. One day we will wish we made all things about Him. We might as well be about that today.
