God uses circumstances

"When Pharaoh says to you, 'Prove yourselves by working a miracle,' then you shall say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.'" So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. Exodus 7: 9 - 11

Whoa! This is a challenging moment. God told Moses to throw the rod down, and it would turn into a snake to prove to Pharaoh that God spoke. Yet, God let the magicians do the same. If I was Moses, I would have looked up to God and said, "Are you kidding?"

I wonder why God allowed this. Maybe it was because Moses was too dependent on the hocus pocus and not dependent enough on the very word of God, and God wanted to show Him that His word was sufficient. But, on the other hand, perhaps it was to show the world that there are real and deceptive powers that would mimic God and His ways to deceive and destroy.

In any case, Moses had to learn that circumstances are not what we trust. We trust God. We do not trust in miracles; we trust in God. We do not trust in our faith, but in His faithfulness.

God uses circumstances to demonstrate His faithfulness. Why would we pray for relief instead of renewed strength? If we ride it out, we will see how God will make it work. If we faint, or give in, we lose, as do those we have been entrusted to lead.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
