All great leaders must point to God !

Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, the Negeb, and the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. And the LORD said to him, "This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, 'I will give it to your offspring.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there." So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD, and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but no one knows the place of his burial to this day. Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was undimmed, and his vigor unabated.
Deuteronomy 34:1-7 ESV

Moses completed his earthly mission and was about to enter the joys of his eternal home. He knew and loved God and his people. His disobedience to God led to this moment of tenderness, where God would show Him the land he dreamt about. I am sure Moses was in wonder at what he saw, yet the real wonder would be the moment he left this world for the place that God prepared for him in the next.

The worldly loss of Moses was no comparison to the eternal gain he would experience. Yet Moses, like all true leaders, was concerned for those he would leave behind. He understood the importance of walking with God and obeying God, and wanted those who followed to experience those same joys.

Moses was about to enter a place where the thrill of victory made the earthly fatigue fade to distant memories. He would now always be in God's presence, and, perhaps, go from leader to one of the witnesses mentioned in Hebrews 12.

God obviously knew man's tendencies to worship faithful leaders, so He took Moses home privately and buried his earthly body where nobody could find it.

Throughout our lives and in the end, all great leaders must point to God as Moses did. I am thankful for such a wonderful example and praise God for His excellent work.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
