Then Moses spoke the words of this song until they were finished, in the ears of all the assembly of Israel: "Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear the words of my mouth. May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb. For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God!”
Deuteronomy 31:30 - 32:3 ESV

Moses, as any good leader, knew that his job was to point people to the greatness of our God.
Moses could not cause or stop the Ten Plagues, part the Red Sea, or provide shade, food, and water in the desert. Moses was a servant of God, and therefore qualified to be the leader of a nation. Leaders need to be servants and avoid all things that point to themselves as a reason for anything good.

We struggle with this idea today because worship teams often perform rather than encourage participation, speakers become celebrities, and honor for self is sought rather than honoring God.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness

Hope in a King?
