Easy or Hard?

"If you are not careful to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, the Lord your God, then the Lord will bring on you and your offspring extraordinary afflictions, afflictions severe and lasting, and sicknesses grievous and lasting.
Deuteronomy 28:58-59 ESVST

It would be hard for the reader of Deuteronomy not to see a definitive warning here against ignoring God. This means that we have the capability of ignoring God, or the choice to ignore God. Real choice yields real consequences, and it is abundantly clear in this book the fate of those who ignore Him.

Yet, it seems as if we, the people of the United States of America, pride ourselves in ignoring any voice of authority, including God. Instead of seeking Him, we seek pleasure, fame, money, glory, comfort, and more. If that is what we seek, at the end of our lives, we will boldly proclaim, as Solomon did, that all we lived for was vanity, worthless, and empty.

We can learn the easy way, from historical examples, or the hard way, by making mistakes ourselves. Either way, we will learn.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
