Change of place and pace

We all employ customs. Some foster healthy relationships; others keep us from healthy relationships.

Jesus was in the habit of escaping to the wilderness to talk with God in a distraction-free environment. He seemed to do this at a time that did not take away from His typical daily responsibilities.

Through the years, I have found that getting up early, before the rest of the world gets busy, is my most valuable time. Because others are not yet scurrying around, I can enjoy quiet moments of thought and reflection as I enjoy God, His Word, and His creation.

We need to change our place and pace to look back on our day-to-day life and make the necessary adjustments from time to time. However, we need to ensure that we do not substitute these "mountain top" experiences for our daily habits, or risk experiencing a "yo-yo" type relationship with God, our family, and friends.

If your ancestors were to write about you and describe you, and then say, “as was his (her) custom,” what would that custom be?

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
