The worst thing that can happen…


Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees, they did not confess it so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
John 12:42-43 (ESV)
We live in fear of what others think of us even though we know that what people think can change quickly. People gathered on Palm Sunday and shouted "Crucify Him" by the end of the week.
Anyone who lives for the applause of man lives a yo-yo life.
Throughout the Scriptures, we are told that it is the fear of God that brings great benefit, not the fear of man or anything else.
The worst another person can do to you is kill you, and for the believer, that is not the worst thing that can happen.
 
The worst thing that can happen is to be separated from God, which is what fearing people will do to you.
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight."  Proverbs 9:10 (ESV)

Hope in a King?

And the Lord said to Samuel, "Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.
