We were made to seek.

When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him, God the Father has set his seal." Then they said to him, "What must we do, to be doing the works of God?" Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."
John 6:25-29 (ESV)

Some seek God for what they get out of it. That seems reasonable, to a degree, yet "what we get out of it" is a by-product and cannot be predetermined (other than eternal life).  This crowd wanted Jesus because He gave them food. This was the easy way to have provisions for the future. Yet many sought Jesus, who knew Jesus, who would be and are hungry. Some seek Jesus to be physically well, yet many love Jesus who are ill.

We were made to seek, find, and enjoy God. We will never find satisfaction in life without Him. If our motivation to find God is founded on being fulfilled in life regardless of the circumstances of life, we will not be disappointed.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
