Abide
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:4-5 (ESV)
God never asks us to do something we cannot do. Like sheep, we are asked to stay by the shepherd. In this verse, we are told to "abide" in Him.
We need not focus on productive lives if we abide in Him because our lives will be fruitful.
As a tree's purpose is to produce fruit, our purpose is to produce fruit, and the only way we will ever accomplish this will be by abiding in the right place.
I am glad God did not demand that I should be perfect or always give an excellent response. I am relieved that God did not require some religious ritual or specific family heritage. All God asks is that I abide in Him. I can do that.
