And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father, David! Hosanna in the highest!” And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. Mark 11:8-11 (ESV)
I wonder what Jesus thought while he rode through the crowd. He knew this fickle crowd would turn on Him in a week. It seems that seismic changes in crowd sentiments are nothing new in history.
Today we continuously battle the tidal wave of popular opinion. We should keep in mind that the conclusion of the masses is easily directed or misdirected by the slightest winds of true or false information. A majority opinion is just that, a majority opinion. The opinion may have little or nothing to do with truth.
Today, there are many who ”work the crowd” quite well to validate whatever their plan happens to be. These people take advantage of crowd swings and just hope they can get public opinion to swing at the right time. Stability comes from knowing and living in the truth...that ”thing” not dependent upon public opinion.
