Newlyweds have never been married.

…and commanded the people, "As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it. Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before." Then Joshua said to the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”

Why do we need to be led? Why can't we do things on our own?  Because we have never been that way before. Those who have never been somewhere and are willing to guide others in ignorance are fools. Joshua and the priests had never been there before, but they followed God, who was most capable.

We often find ourselves in places we have never been. Newlyweds have never been married; having a first child is a new experience, and getting old has not yet been experienced. We would be wise to follow the only One who knows what is ahead.

Hope in a King?

And the Lord said to Samuel, "Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.
