God knows what is best for us.
For the people of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord; the Lord swore to them that he would not let them see the land that the Lord had sworn to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Life is not as complicated as we want to make it. Those who listen to God eventually win. Those who do not listen to God will wish that they did. If God is my Father, and He is, then obedience is job one. Those who struggle with wanting to obey God do not know Him and do not realize the life they will miss out on by ignoring His offers.
God knows what is best for us and what we would enjoy. He knows we would enjoy selfless relationships, service to others, and a land flowing with milk and honey. He knows that those who focus exclusively on the milk and honey soon worship the milk and honey and miss the point of such blessings.
