Misaligned Hope
Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Selah, Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
Psalm 84:3-5 (ESV)
We are blessed when our strength is in God. Once again, God makes it so anybody, anywhere, can gain strength. So today, all people in all places can be blessed--the prisoner, the government official, the beggar, the sports star, the housewife, the laborer, or the retired.
The requirement for this strength is to have our hope in God alone.
One of life's great dangers is placing our hope in something God uses and abandoning God. God may use money, time, medication, or some kind words to help heal your body and soul, yet our trust and hope need to always be in Him and not His tools.
Anxiety, despair, and depression can easily be the fruits of misaligned hope. In what or whom do you have your hope?
