A Successful Life
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 (ESV) Have you not known? Have you not heard? Why not? How does one act who knows that God is the Creator of the ends of the earth, that His understanding is beyond our capacity, and that He strengthens the weak and never tires? Why wouldn't we know this about God? Our actions are always in step with what we know and believe; they tell us more about our beliefs than our words. If we know God, we will describe Him as this passage describes Him. If I were God's enemy, I would attack the idea of God as a creator. But instead, I would try to make my understanding of the standard and blame circumstances beyond my control for my weariness. Knowing and following God is the singular most crucial function of a successful life. How are you doing at this? |
