If you are in God's family…

Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the LORD would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp. Whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise up, and each would stand at his tent door, and watch Moses until he had gone into the tent. When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the LORD would speak with Moses. And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door. Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.
Exodus 33:7-11 (ESV)

What a privilege it was for Moses to speak to God. I can only imagine the awe of all those who watched this process. Yet, people often forgot that Moses had this special relationship with God.
The mob often began to be disgruntled and allowed discontent with Moses and God to reign.
It would be natural for those who are confused about God to be confused about those who God has chosen as His leaders. It would be natural for them to be discontent with both. This discontentment could come from jealousy or envy in wondering why Moses and Joshua got such privileged positions in life, and the rest were left outside looking in.

Today we are all given the privilege, through Christ, to approach God as Moses did. If we are believers, we have God's Word and His Holy Spirit to guide us, leaving us in the same privileged position as Moses.

In Mark 14:36 we are told of this conversation of Jesus with God: "And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."

In Romans 8:15 we are told that those of us who are in God's family have the same privilege: "For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’"

If you are in God's family, you have access to our Heavenly Father, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. This should matter!

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness

Hope in a King?
