Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.
Exodus 40:34-38 (ESV)
The people knew that Moses knew and communicated with God. The people knew God was directing them in the desert and caring for their physical needs. This group could see God's hand in their daily lives, yet they struggled with knowing and following Him.
We have a choice on what we focus. We can focus on God, our obedience to Him, and that He can provide regardless of the circumstances. Or, we can focus on the circumstances and view them as more powerful than God. Circumstances often distort our vision of God, so we all need those around us who have practiced looking beyond circumstances to God's faithful provision.
The people knew Moses met with God and knew the plan. They would have been wise to be content and even excited about God's plan. Yet, they struggled with focus, just as we do today. Hopefully, we will learn where to focus while still on this earth to enjoy God's faithfulness.
