God cares

So Joseph said to his brothers, "Come near to me, please." And they came near. And he said, "I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Genesis 45:4-8 (ESV)

Joseph had a tender heart. He did not want to punish anyone; he wanted to reconcile. He was in a unique position to see how the circumstances of life were working miracles in his family.
A tender heart does not desire to inflict pain on someone else. God has a tender heart in that it is not His desire that any should perish, even though we all deserve to perish. God cared so much that while we were still sinners, He sent Christ to die for us.

In some ways, Joseph is a picture of Christ. Joseph was persecuted, falsely accused, punished, and sentenced. Then, through miraculous situations, he was brought out of prison and given a seat next to the King. He used his power and resources to rescue, not punish.

Those who view God as one who is eager to punish do not know Him, for He has done everything for us to be reconciled to Himself.
For now, the choice is ours.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness

Hope in a King?
