Leaders Confess
We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules that you commanded your servant Moses. Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.'
Nehemiah 1:7-9 (ESV)
Leaders confess the sins of the people they lead and know God and His ways. Nehemiah was bothered by sin. He then took action against it by acknowledging and confessing it and claiming God's promise.
Bothered, confession, and repentance seem to be the outline for success. If you are not bothered, you need to ask yourself why. If you do not confess, you do not understand the importance of owning the problem. If you do not repent, you were never really bothered.
It all starts with delighting and/or being bothered by the right things.
