Entitled

And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, seeing that you, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a remnant as this, shall we break your commandments again and intermarry with the peoples who practice these abominations? Would you not be angry with us until you consumed us, so that there should be no remnant, nor any to escape.
Ezra 9:13-14 (ESV)
 
I have been punished far less than I deserve. I have enjoyed far more privilege than I have earned. Why should I ever ignore the One who has given me far more blessings and less punishment than I deserve?
 
Entitled people tend to focus on a false idea of what they deserve and seem to forget the things for which they should be punished. Entitlement is a problem because it is always self-justified and constantly reinforced by our associations in life.
 
Entitled people are not servants, and therefore, cannot be Christ-followers. They remain focused on what others should do for them and how this life should be about them.

Doing right, right.

And there was war again. And David went out and fought with the Philistines and struck them with a great blow, so that they fled before him. Then a harmful spirit from the Lord came upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre. And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night. 1 Samuel 19:8-10 (ESV) Doing everything right does not ensure peace and tranquility on this earth; instead, it ensures your significance in the universe. David was a man after God's own heart, a faithful soldier, a good friend, and generally, one who could be trusted.
