Bothered By Sin
While Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, a very great assembly of men, women, and children, gathered to him out of Israel, for the people wept bitterly.
Ezra 10:1 (ESV)
Good leaders are genuinely bothered by sin. They are not bothered by people. They are bothered by sin, for they love people. If love drives sorrow, then hope can follow. Certainly, anger seems to be a byproduct of righteous sorrow, but anger should be directed at the evil and what the evil is doing rather than at the evil person. I would think that anger at the Evil One is also part of the process, and all this anger that eventually plays itself out in Godly sorrow is the key to true repentance.
Regardless of how you demonstrate it, genuine sorrow for sin is the first necessary step in recovery. Those who justify sin are never sorry for their sin, and therefore, can never repent from them and enjoy the freedom Christ is offering.
If you never see what you are missing, you will never see the need for repentance. That is why those who love God live holy lives.
