God's Word is available, simple, and applicable. We need to obey.

You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20:5-6 (ESV)

This is a simple command, easy to understand. We do not show ultimate homage to anyone other than God. Those who request or demand this type of treatment are dangerous. Throughout history, kings and emperors have demanded this respect and most fearfully responded.

In the book of Esther, Mordecai must have understood this command and refused to bow to Haman. Many understood this command and compromised, yet Mordecai stood tall. In the book of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego must have understood this command and stood alone, together, against the most powerful man in their day. Because of their simple obedience, Mordecai and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego ended well, while those who bowed lost out on experiencing God's provision.

God's Word is available, simple, and applicable. We need to obey.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness

Hope in a King?
