Unfair Advantage

“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”   Mark 13:32-37 (ESV)

One of the oldest tactics of a formidable enemy is to lull the opposition asleep, for sleeping people are easy to defeat. Therefore, since Satan is a formidable enemy, he is waiting for us to relax our thoughts and standards. He awaits our distance from the Shepherd and focuses on easy prey.

Those who stay awake, who are aware of his schemes, are impossible to successfully attack.

Sometimes it seems unfair that Satan, or his followers, have been waiting and watching for our entire lifetime in order to find a single window of opportunity. However, think of how he feels in that those who stay alert and stay by the Shepherd also have, what he would consider, an unfair advantage.  For now, I choose to live with the unfair advantage.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
