Leaders Follow

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.” And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet. So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”  Mark 11:29-33 (ESV)
When we become more concerned with what those around us think of us than what the truth is, we disqualify ourselves as leaders. Leadership, first and foremost, works at knowing and following the truth in their own lives. Leaders do not coerce, connive, or manipulate the masses; rather, they demonstrate truth to the masses.
We have been taught that in order to be a leader you need to have someone follow you. This idea has caused many to work to manipulate crowds in order to prove their leadership.
Jesus was the greatest leader of all time. Jesus was the greatest follower of all time and lived in a way that we can all emulate.
In the end, our leadership will be judged by how we followed, not by how many we led.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
