The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals, but sought the God of his father and walked in his commandments, and not according to the practices of Israel. Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand. And all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had great riches and honor. His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord. And furthermore, he took the high places and the Asherim out of Judah. 2 Chronicles 17:3-6 (ESV) We are told, very simply, why God blessed Jehoshaphat. It was because he walked with God, did not seek Baals, obeyed God, and avoided the practices of the Godless. Therefore, God established the kingdom in his hand. We all have personal responsibility. God is consistent in His response to us. Those who look for Him will find Him. Those who obey Him will lead successful lives. Those who shun Godless ways will not be inflicted by the same troubles with which the Godless are plagued. For now, the choice is ours. |
