God is God; we are not.

When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the Lord had done for Israel.
Judges 2:6-7 (ESV)

We must enrich the next generation's lives with the history of God's faithfulness. We must help them identify what allowed those who lived victorious lives to be victorious. Joshua is a book of victory. Judges is a book of defeat. The difference is striking, simple to understand, and offers timeless lessons.

God is God; we are not. Complete obedience to Him is necessary for those who are to be included in His game plan. Pain is part of the process and should not be celebrated, but it should also not be avoided.

Those in Judges eventually forgot that man is here to show who God is, not to use God for comfort and ease. Ultimately, this neglect destroyed all God had started to do in Moses and Joshua. It should not have been this way.

One day, we answer to God.

It is good that God does not depend upon our ability, faith, or goodness
