Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him. And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. They came up to him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and struck him with their hands.
John 19:1-3 (ESV)
I can only imagine how those who beat on Jesus, made Him a crown of thorns, and mocked Him felt when they faced Him in eternity. Jesus, at the time, was silent, but His time to speak would come, and when He did, the universe responded.
All those who persecute Christians will face the King the Christians served one day. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. On that day, there will be much embarrassment and rejoicing.
I cannot help but wonder what those who chose to be "lukewarm" will be doing on those days. Of course, the diligent, who were persecuted, will be rejoicing, and the persecutors will be bowing and confessing, but what will those who missed out on God's best be doing?
Believers who remain faithful in this life will be rewarded, and those who are not faithful will not be rewarded. We like to think that all will be the same, but it is clear that our salvation is due to God's mercy and the provision of Jesus, but the rewards are due to our properly motivated obedience/service.
It will be interesting to see the various crowds watching and acknowledging Jesus as God on that day. What group do you think you will be in? Why?
