Independence?

Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us; look, and see our disgrace! Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners. We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows. We must pay for the water we drink; the wood we get must be bought. Our pursuers are at our necks; we are weary; we are given no rest. We have given the hand to Egypt, and to Assyria, to get bread enough. Our fathers sinned, and are no more; and we bear their iniquities. Slaves rule over us; there is none to deliver us from their hand. We get our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness. Our skin is hot as an oven with the burning heat of famine.

Our ideas have consequences. Our choices are byproducts of our ideas. We need to guard our ideas as much as our actions, for our actions will always follow our ideas.
 
When we think we can live independently from God, we start making choices apart from His wisdom, guidance, and protection, and we destroy hope. It does not need to end this way.

It seems as if we have minimized the Holy Spirit in the Evangelical community in the United States. We have replaced Him with good things, things that He could use, but things that have indeed replaced Him. Instead of counting on the Spirit of God to lead our leaders we count on the majority. Ministries have studied secular businesses and figured out how they need to operate, and they have replaced the Spirit of God with long range plans, feasibility studies, strategic plans, etc. The individual has replaced the Spirit of God with the plethora of books available on any topic. Psychology seems to be equal to if not more important than God's Spirit, and we place our hope in our doctors, insurances and retirement plans. What would happen if the Spirit of God was trying to get someone to give away their retirement money? Just Listen

As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. John  17:18-19  (ESV)   Jesus was sent to earth on a mission, and He is sending us on a mission as well. Our mission is not to make this place our home; instead, it is to use the gifts God gave us to participate with Him in the fight and ultimate victory.   For this to happen, we need to know Him, obey Him, and represent Him to our world. Listen

You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.' Leviticus 18:5   When a person begins to understand that they need not completely understand God to obey God, they begin to understand. This command is more than just a directive for us to observe; it is the key to a meaningful life.   What is being said here is plain and simple. For those who choose to keep the statutes and rules of God, those statutes and regulations will be the cause of life, real life. Think of how consistent this message is. Jesus told us later that in Him is life. We understand that Jesus died not only to save us from Hell, but to give us life, and give us life more abundantly.   For now, the choice is yours. Listen, which means not just hear but obey, and you will see God's statutes and rules be the catalyst to life.
