The Will of God

And the men of David said to him, "Here is the day of which the Lord said to you, 'Behold, I will give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.'" Then David arose and stealthily cut off a corner of Saul's robe. And afterward David's heart struck him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul's robe. He said to his men, "The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord's anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord's anointed." So David persuaded his men with these words and did not permit them to attack Saul. And Saul rose up and left the cave and went on his way.
1 Samuel 24:4-7 (ESV)

It is easy for us to look at what is happening in our world and attempt to determine God's "will" or "provision" through the lens of circumstances. It looked like God was delivering Saul into David's hand. Yet, David did the opposite of what most of us would have done. He seemed convinced that God needed to remove Saul, not himself, and saw that he had given the wrong message to those with him by taking matters into his own hands.

God has a plan for us and will work His plan and make Himself evident when we are sensitive and obedient to His Holy Spirit. This instance was not about relief for David. Instead, it was about demonstrating how a Godly leader interacts with God concerning the circumstances of life.
I pray that I might be as sensitive to God's plans as David was.
