Where’s Your Hope?


Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said: "Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? Should he argue in unprofitable talk, or in words with which he can do no good? But you are doing away with the fear of God and hindering meditation before God. For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the tongue of the crafty. Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; your own lips testify against you."
Job 15: 1-6

Eliphaz and his buddies continued to get it wrong because they had messed up the concept of love. They believed that Job must have angered God, when, in reality, He had pleased Him very much.

Therefore, Job was placed on the galactic stage for all to observe, and he became the target of a fierce battle. At this juncture, the only hope for anyone is found in knowing God and trusting His character.

Nothing has changed through the years. My only hope, and your only hope, is knowing God and trusting His character. We have nothing else of real great value. We have no hope if our hope is in us, our friends, our circumstances, or the government.

Circumstances show us where our hope is at. God shows us hope in our circumstances. We need to pay attention to what is happening.

John 12:28-31 (ESV) Jesus did all things for our benefit, not for His.  He is the model of success. We can guard our life, energy, time, resources, and more, only to find that we wasted them all. When we think of others and care for others, we invest in their lives. We do things for their sake, not ours. The goal in life is to enjoy God!

I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these words. I took counsel with myself, and I brought charges against the nobles and the officials. I said to them, "You are exacting interest, each from his brother." And I held a great assembly against them. Nehemiah 5:6-7 (ESV) Those who help people because they gain have not helped anyone but themselves. They have masked their greed with public kindness and generosity. They appear to care for others, when clearly, they are caring for themselves and using others.   Using other people's money has always been essential to business plans, because, if done correctly, both parties win. Loaning money to those you will own or who will struggle for the rest of their lives to pay it back is not love, kindness, or Christianity. Those who are irresponsible need to be taught responsibility. Those who do not work should not eat, and those who have much need not lord it over the needy.
