Rugged Peaks and Valleys

The path of the righteous is level; you make level the way of the righteous. In the path of your judgments, O Lord, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul. My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
Isaiah 26:7-9 (ESV)

A righteous person does what is right. In many cases, right and wrong are very clear. In some cases, right and wrong are mysterious.

It seems to me that our loving God and Father is the one who makes things "level," and that the most critical aspect of our responsibility is to want to please Him. As a child, I may not always know what is right, but I can always have the desire to do what is right, and that makes all the difference.

God can make it so that one who has a pure heart can avoid the rugged peaks and valleys of this life. I need to trust in Him.

Choosing to Listen

And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "Inquire first for the word of the Lord." Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall we go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?" And they said, "Go up, for God will give it into the hand of the king." But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here another prophet of the Lord of whom we may inquire?" "The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who have separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who have knowledge and understanding, join with their brothers, their nobles, and enter into a curse and an oath to walk in God's Law that was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord and his rules and his statutes.
