A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows on it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

Isaiah 40:6-8 (ESV)
We must keep life and death in perspective. We all know that people live and die. We understand that all people die, and those who have some terminal illness are, in some ways, specially gifted in that they get a chance to better prepare for the inevitable.
You would think, since we all know that we will die and that we will be dead a whole lot longer than we are alive, that we would all be ready for such a time. Yet, for most of us, death is a surprise, a moment for which we were not prepared.
Perhaps we should live in the context of reality and be prepared for the things of which we are certain.
