For who is like me, and who can challenge me? What ruler can oppose my will?” Jeremiah 50:44 (NLT)
A young man recently wrote "Dear Abby" because of his concern for his father becoming sexually active with other men. He was disturbed by what was going on and asked Abby how he might better deal with this.
His first problem was to ask "Dear Abby," who obviously pulls her ideas from whatever is most politically correct, and not from what is right and wrong.
She told this young man that it should no longer shock people that someone has chosen to act like his father is acting. She went on to say this: "Times have changed. Today a person's sexual orientation is no longer considered something to be hidden. One constructive way to deal with it would be to realize how fortunate you are to have the kind of relationship you have always had with your dad. Be supportive, don't judge and love him for the parent he has always been."
Bad advice.
The loving part is good; we should always be loving. But love cannot watch someone destroy themselves and say nothing. Love cannot watch someone deliberately do evil and only think of the good times they used to have. Sexual activity outside the boundaries God has given us is wrong. It was wrong four thousand years ago, and it is wrong now. No matter what the culture might believe, it will always be wrong in the future.
God's ways are not outdated. He alone is the One who decides what "right and wrong" are. He is always right. We must not adjust God or His dictates to our culture, hopes, dreams, or desires.
There are probably thousands of children who read this article and were exposed to the casual way "Dear Abby" diminished the value of God and His ways. She is either fearless in telling the nation to ignore the dictates of God, or is a fool. We as a nation are either foolish for thinking this is wisdom, or fearless in declaring that our "norm" will now dictate right and wrong, even when going directly against God.
God is the lighthouse; we are the ship. He will not alter His course, but we must, or we will face certain destruction.
Psalm 33:12 (NLT)
12 What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
