Resources
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.
Proverbs 19:17 (ESV)
How often do we do something to be noticed by others? How often do we help others to help ourselves? How often do we help someone just because it is right to help them, and gain nothing for our efforts?
Is it hard to help someone who is ungrateful and gives nothing in return? So often, we measure all we do by the return we will receive on the investment. This mind-frame prevents us from helping those who are truly in need, for they cannot pay us back.
That is why we are told that those who "get it" care for widows and orphans. True widows and orphans are in a position of need, and they cannot pay back our kindness or multiply our investment, yet those who are truly Christian care for their needs.
Resources are given to us to multiply the important things in life, not to multiply our self-indulgent lifestyles. We need to practice being stewards and not owners.
