Marching Orders
So they were saying, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We do not know what he is talking about." Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, 'A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me'? Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.”
John 16:18-20 (ESV)
So often, it appears we lose when we win. Those who die to themselves, live. Those who choose to be slaves to God are free. Those who confess their sin are forgiven. I am significant when I lose my purpose in God's plan. The poor are rich, and the weak are strong.
When Jesus talks about time, He speaks as one who lives outside of time. So, when He told His disciples that they would see Him again in a little while, He talked about something (time) that we can only imagine.
The Scriptures tell us that Jesus' return is imminent, and that a day to God is like a thousand years to us. The earth's time is just about over in the scope of eternity. It could be today or ten thousand years from now, yet I am told that the wise live as if it were today.
I have my marching orders.
