New Teen Craze

I read an article recently describing the new teen craze of "Sexting." This, for those who do not know, is when a person takes a risqué picture of themselves, and sends it to someone for review….for whatever purposes. This is becoming quite prevalent in that on a recent spot check of phones it was found that 39% of all cell phones were used to send these indecent messages, and 48% of the teens' phones had received such images.

Think of it. Almost half of the teens' phones received unacceptable images of their friends.

What are they thinking? Where do they get this from?

It seems to me that the laws in our nation are out of whack, and the kids are just being consistent with the reality in which they live. Our society, as a whole, has dropped any semblance of standards. We allow pornography, but not for minors. We tell people that we cannot do anything about the porn industry because of freedom of speech, and then condemn it at certain ages.

In fact, we have a history of telling young people that if you are an adult, you can do all sorts of things that would be harmful to you if you were a child. If you are an adult you can watch porn, smoke, drink, watch "R" rated movies, etc.

I guess, since you're an "adult," you will show "responsibility" in your actions. Then again, is it ever "responsible" to watch porn, smoke, drink and watch "R" movies?

Could it be that the real message is that when you turn into an adult you can become irresponsible since there is no law against irresponsibility? Could it be that our children, who desperately want to be "grown ups," long for the irresponsibility they see in adults, and are now imitating that on their phones?

Technology, whether it be nuclear energy, movies, or the ability to take pictures on phones, can be used for good or bad. The only way anything will be used for good would be if we remain subject to Almighty God. In a nation that has moved away from being able to set any absolute standards, we will continue to morally deteriorate until the good life that was once abundant here in the United States will just be a memory.

Taking God, as God, Father, and Judge out of the picture leaves us with lewd, unacceptable pictures. We should not wonder why Godless people act Godless. The answer will never be more laws….The answer for our nation is more God.
